Hunger In the Hangar. The Challenges Of A Hangry Pilot?

FEED ME MENTALITY

Ah, the glamorous life of a pilot, where the skies are your playground, but the quest for decent food can feel like navigating through turbulence. Join me on a culinary journey fraught with unexpected twists, turns, and hangry disappointments.

Picture this: I wake up with a growling stomach that could rival the roar of a jet engine. Hangry doesn’t even begin to describe it. But alas, the hotel breakfast bar is as closed as airspace during a presidential visit. Desperate times call for desperate measures, so I turn to the wonders of food delivery apps in search of salvation.

After scrolling the food delivery app, I settle on a breakfast burrito aptly named “The Kitchen Sink.” Let’s face it, when you’re starving, why settle for anything less than a culinary masterpiece resembling a Sunday morning omelet? Little did I know, my hopes of satisfaction would soon plummet faster than a bird strike.

Enter Ana, the delivery driver—or should I say, the disappearing act extraordinaire. Just as my stomach began its victory dance at the sight of her approaching the restaurant, poof! Like a magician’s assistant, she vanished from the app and into thin air, leaving me stranded in a sea of hunger and confusion. Oh, Ana, you fickle harbinger of disappointment.

But fear not, for in the realm of food delivery, there’s always a hero waiting in the wings. Cue Diego, the burrito-bearing knight in shining armor. With a promise of salvation and a dash of salsa, he embarks on a quest to rescue me from the clutches of starvation. Alas, his journey ends in the same mysterious disappearance from the app tracker as Ana’s, leaving me to ponder the cruel whims of fate.

“Ok, what’s going on” I ask the empty hotel lobby.

As if on cue, the delivery app notification dings “Dear Mr. Pilot, your order has been canceled after our drivers notified us that the restaurant is closed”. Closed? Wait, what?  No “Kitchen Sink Burrito”?  Not today I guess.

With my dreams of a “Kitchen Sink” burrito dashed against the rocks of culinary despair, I reluctantly settle for a Fajita’s Special from another diner. It’s like the second crew member you never asked for—functional, but lacking that spark of greatness. As I bid adieu to my burrito blues, I can’t help but wonder: What’s next on the menu for this intrepid pilot? Only time—and perhaps a few more delivery mishaps—will tell.

Watching the NY skyline while on-the-road and waiting for food. FEED ME!
