CJ Saves The Kittens! A New Beginning For 18 Babies

I love animals! Don’t you? One of my favorite past times is supporting the Pilots N Paws animal rescue charity. This week I got a call from Kim asking if I can save kittens and help her find a new beginning for 18 babies.

A Phone Call

“Hey Chris, can you fly tomorrow? I need to move 18 kittens from Fresno to San Jose.”

The Fresno Animal Center has too many abandoned animals and is looking for help rescuing them. Kelly, from the Animal Center asked Kim if she could help coordinate transportation for 18 adorable kittens. A few of which were found on the side of the road in a bucket.

The Flight

Fresno is a pretty easy airport to get to from the Sacramento Valley, just head south. Today’s weather is clear skies, cool air and a nice tailwind. I choose to fly at 4,500 feet and am greeted by a green valley below for the one hour and twenty minute flight.

The Signature FBO at the Fresno/Yosemite Airport (KFAT) is a friend of the program. Not only did they waive landing fees but I’m getting a fuel discount for my animal humanitarian flight. The front desk is great, they even escorted Kelly to the aircraft for easier access to load the kennels.

Six Crates Full of Meowing Kittens

A total of six crates quickly fill my back seat and meows fill the air. I’m airborne again in no time. From the Fresno Valley I head NorthWest towards the Reid-Hillview Airport (KHRV) in Santa Clara County. It’s a small airport just outside the San Jose Class C Airspace.

Taxiing into the ramp I see Tram and Thoa from the “Mini Cat Town” (@minicattown) animal rescue waiving hello. These wonderful sisters started their own business to create a cat haven designed to rescue animals in the Bay Area. What started out as feeding stray cats has turned into a non-profit organization that specializes in neonatal kittens.

The three of us each grab two crates and carry the babies towards the start of their new beginning. I enjoy flying, but it’s even more enjoyable when I can do it to save the kittens.
