A sustained break in the atmospheric rivers pouring over California are providing us a clear day today. “Come fly with me!” I told my wife. “We can go enjoy the views over Lake Tahoe”.
Climbing up and out of Marysville Airport (KMYV), NorCal Approach provides us flight following assistance as we begin our visual climb to 9,500 feet eastbound. The Beale AFB protected airspace is quiet and the views from Chico to Folsom are amazing.
We glide over the Hammonton Dredge Gold Fields and up the Yuba River as we continue to ascend over the Sacramento Valley and into the Sierra Nevada’s. Off to the north we can see the Shady Creek Outdoor School.
Amazingly, we encounter very little wind over the ridges as we see our airspeed is the same as ground speed. What a day to fly! We make the turn south as Truckee Airport (KTRK) comes into view.
The kaleidoscope of blues are beautiful as we fly down the California coast of the lake. We are a witness to the historic levels of snow as we watch skiers enjoying the slopes.
Emerald Bay leaves us in awe as it comes into view in front of the wing. Cascade Lake dazzles us with its frozen surface just off Highway 89.
We now reach the southern end of the lake and turn northbound as we watch another plane take off from the South Lake Tahoe Airport (KTVL).
Proceeding north, Carson City and Reno are visible on the Nevada side of the lake. We start our turn to the west at Kings Beach for our trek back home.
The flight only takes 2-hours to complete, but the views and memories will last for ever. It really is a good day to come fly with me. Enjoy the view over Lake Tahoe , It’s phenomenal.
